A cool, drizzly, overcast day today. A visit to Nachusa Grasslands is beginning to look iffy for this week. However, clouds are not necessarily a bad thing. Cloud cover acts like a giant diffuser, softening the light and reducing contrast, making such light especially good for capturing fine detail. Occasionally the light can be too diffused, and everything can appear flat and lifeless. You have to look hard to find tonal contrasts, and often work hard in post-processing to recreate what you saw through the viewfinder.
