On the 68th anniversary of the Invasion of Normandy, life.time.com shares a collection of rare color photos taken just before and after the invasion. I find them quite fascinating – there are so few color images from this time that I occasionally forget that back in the 40s, the world wasn’t black & white, just the photos. Somehow these images make the people and places seem more vivid, more alive, and the tragedy and cost of war more tangible and immediate.
