Phantom of the mountains

Phantom of the mountains

Found in countries such as China, Bhutan, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia, and Mongolia, the Snow leopard’s numbers are dwindling. Less than 7000 are believed to exist in the wild. Perhaps considerably less, as the big cat’s elusive nature makes an accurate count difficult. The usual culprits are to blame for the declining numbers – habitat fragmentation, loss of prey species, and illegal poaching.
