You know a lens is magical when you find yourself making images of random stuff just to see what those images will look like when created with said magical lens. In my opinion the Olympus 75mm f/1.8 is that good, in every way imaginable – from it’s incredible sharpness wide open, to it’s impeccable build quality. When you’re using it, you know you’re working with a precision instrument. It’s a lot of fun to make art with something that is itself a work of art. Bravo, Olympus. I wouldn’t object to a 200mm f/2.8 of similar quality. Or a 300mm f/4. Or a 400mm f/5.6. Or a nice 40-150mm f/2.8. Or possibly all of the above.
By the way, ISO 1600 on the E-M5 looks pretty darn good to me. We’re getting awfully close to sensor size becoming irrelevant, at least in terms of pure image quality. Also, 1/30th of a second is no typo, and there was no tripod involved. Ain’t technology grand?
