2013-11-07 Chicago Botanic Garden
I paid a visit to the Chicago Botanic Garden this last Monday. The conditions were challenging, with gusty winds, heavy overcast skies and mostly dull, flat light. Not a great day for making great images. However, I knew I wasn’t likely to make it back again before the leaves fell, so I improvised as best I could. If you think good high ISO performance only comes in handy when shooting in low-light conditions, think again. The gusty winds required high shutter speeds to create sharp images, as subjects were often jostled by the winds. That meant pumping up the ISO on occasion. The E-M5 was mostly up to the challenge, aided by the speed of the 75mm f/1.8, which has become my go-to lens. I have always been a telephoto fan – it’s simply the way in which I see the world – and the 75mm is awfully good.
I will be taking a three day break to catch up on some tasks that need completing. See you on Monday. Have a pleasant weekend.
