I spoke a bit about light the other day – here’s another good example of the quality of light, and how it interacts with your subject. These two images were captured in bright shade, my favorite light for close-up/macro work. Why? Because the soft quality of the light eliminates harsh shadows and highlights, revealing all the details of the subject. This type of light also enhances colors. Wanna shoot up close? Look for that bright shade – for instance, the north side of a building – or wait for a day with a high, overcast sky. If neither is available, try using a diffuser over your subject, to soften the light.
